Regional President Speech
Cathy E. Minehan · President
Good evening everyone. It is truly a pleasure and an
honor to be part of this celebration in honor of Sheryl
Marshall. She has been my friend for almost 10 years now-a
friend whose joyous laugh, and heartfelt sympathy and
support have sustained me and so many others. You know,
when I looked at the guest list for tonight, I couldn't help but
think-who else but Sheryl could bring together such a stellar
and diverse group. Senior executives from insurance, health
care, management consulting, money management, and high
tech; non-profit execs. and philanthropists; state and national
political figures; authors and management consultants; blaek
and white; ife,vs snd ean•Jew/- and I'm just talking about the
women. Truly Sheryl has a unique gift for bringing us
together around a cause, to glimpse a new financial
opportunity, and, sometimes, just to go shopping. Sheryl, to
paraphrase a television celebrity, "You are the strongest link."
On behalf of the American Jewish Committee, it gives me
great pleasure to present this award, which is a seriograph, in
Hebrew and English calligraphy, of a quote from the Sage
Hillel. The quote is a nugget of wisdom-one that Sheryl so
clearly understands.
It reads:
"If I am not for myself, who is for me?
If I am only for myself, what am I?
If not now, when?"
And the inscription reads:
The American Jewish Committee
Institute of Human Relations Award
Presented to
Sheryl R. Marshall
May 22, 2001
In recognition of her lifelong commitment to the Boston
community.
