TRADE COMMISSIONERS MEETING
Chicago, Illinois
March 24, 1998
.....................................................................
• Welcome. Thank you for coming today.
• Hope this meeting is the first of many.
• It’s important to have ongoing dialogue with each other.
• Global economy and international trade very important to Midwest economy.
• Bill Testa, from our Research Department, will discuss little later.
• After lunch, Jack Hervey also from our Research Department, will give an overview of the U.S. and
international economies.
• I know from my own experience as trade representative – economies cannot operate in isolation –
trade helps bind us together – decisions of your policymakers affect Midwest and U.S. economies.
• We need to understand each other.
• Hope these kinds of meetings will help promote dialogue.
• We’re very interested in hearing your ideas about international trade and investment.
• Hope you find program interesting.
• Like to introduce Marlene Murray and James Pieper [say “piper”] from our Corporate
Communications department, who will present an overview of the Fed and give you a tour of Bank.
